The support systems of LGBT elders — their partners and their families (often families “of choice”) may not be recognized under the law. LGBTQ people frequently are not granted family or medical leave to take care of a sick or terminally ill partner.
LGBTQ people may need legal documentation to avoid being excluded from decision-making on a partner’s medical care or funeral plans.
